Restoration Symposium: Hayes’ Hidden Past
A presentation of recent findings at Hayes, using ground penetrating radar, dendrochronology, and paint analysis.
Much has been learned about life at Hayes from the existing structures, cemetery, and grounds. Yet little is known about Hayes from 1765 to 1815. Where was the original home; what dependencies were there; was there another burial site – these are just a few of the unanswered questions. Studies using ground penetrating radar have begun to answer some of these questions.
New discoveries are being made within the current home, starting with a paint analysis to determine the original color of the exterior and of each of the rooms.
Dendrochronology allows us to determine the date of events, structures and artifacts by studying tree rings.
The date and reservation process for the Symposium will be announced in the fall.
