Surrounded by fields, the cemetery at Hayes contains 28 grave sites, its first stone dated 1737. Included are Samuel Johnston, James Cathcart Johnston, James Iredell, and Penelope Barker. John Gilliam Wood III (1929-2015) is the only Wood buried on the property.  St Paul’s churchyard and Beaver Hill Cemetery are the sites for many of the other Wood family members.
